Inlay and Onlay Restorations | Teeth Whitening | White or Composite Filling

White or Composite filling offers a simple method of restoring your smile to its original beauty and even improving upon nature. Composite bonding is one of the most conservative, versatile and affordable ways to esthetically restore a multitude of dental cases.

White filling (composite) is a synthetic plastic type material which matches the color of your natural tooth and it is a more conservative way of restoring your tooth to its natural function providing that your decay is not extensive. We use this natural looking material to:

· Restore cavities in front and back teeth
· Replace old or unattractive “silver fillings”
· Repair root abrasion (on roots exposed by gum recession or notched by years of aggressive brushing). Covering these areas prevents root sensitivity or cavities, and improves their appearances.
· Close spaces between the teeth
· Restore chipped or fractured teeth
· Improve or change the color or shape of natural teeth

As with most dental restorations, composites are not always permanent and may someday require replacement. With proper care and routine dental monitoring, these restorations may last five years or more before requiring touch ups or replacements.

How is White or Composite Filling done?

Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment. While the tooth is numb, the decay or defective tooth structure is removed. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.

It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when composite fillings are first placed, however this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling.

You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings.
