Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free dental treatment experience. It allows patients who are anxious and sometimes afraid of dental treatments to feel relaxed and receive proper dental care. We use three types of dental sedation at Broadway Dental:

1. Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation which is a form of conscious sedation (that is all body functions remain normal and intact) comes in the form of pills given to the patient. The level of anesthesia experienced by each patient is generally different due to the body weight, genetics and previous drug history. Since the pills are swallowed, there is a time delay before the anesthesia takes effect.

The most common drug administered by dentist for oral sedation is Triazolam. Triazolam creates a deep sense of relaxation with amnesic effect allowing a patient to receive proper dental treatment without experiencing anxiety and pain.

2. Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is an inhalant sedation allowing a patient to unwind and be happy while receiving dental treatment. Nitrous Oxide is simply a gas with no color, smell and does not irritate. It reduces pain and often make people get 'the giggles'. 

In dentistry, Nitrous Oxide is used as a mix with Oxygen. Upon inhaling Nitrous oxide gas, a patient feels tingling sensation followed by warm sensation and then a sense of well being, floating and euphoria.

3. Computerized Local Anesthetic (Single Tooth Anesthesia)

A computer controlled dental anesthetic sedation provides a dentist with a high tech alternative to the traditional local anesthetic syringe eliminating injection pain and discomfort, also avoiding collateral anesthesia of the face and muscles of expression. 

This anesthetic method represents a practical and efficacious way for local anesthesia of all teeth.
